I learned about Arizona Immigration law last year...In Arizona, police can stop anyone who walks on the street or drives a car, and ask him or her to show the document that shows he or she is a legal resident in the USA when they are suspicous of anyone. When Arizona passed this bill, it was very controversial. The profiling could be racialism. That's why this article grabbed my attention when I read the title of this article at first time. I think this article is an editorial article.
Arizona lawmakers filed legislation which provoked controversy again like immigration law of last year. This bill is about giving citizenship. Any baby who was born in the USA was granted the citizenship even though their parents were illegal residents. That baby could have the benefit of the citizenship and so many aliens crossed the border before they gave a birth to a child. That was the problem because their parents didn't pay taxes at all. Thus, many American paytaxers were angry at that and filed the legislation last week.
The opponets of this legislation say that all persons born or naturalized in the US are citizen of the US, and they should be equally protected by the laws.
I suppport this legislation because the babies shouldn't get benefits without paying anythings. I mean that it's not fair to good tax payers. I think when Americans pay taxes, they expect rewards like good education. However, when their money goes to someone who didn't pay tax, they might be angry. It's harsh to babies, but they don't deserve that.
it's serious problem. i know how people in Arizona feel. it's no fair.
답글삭제I think it's an important problem in U.S today, and I agree with you. It's unfair law.
답글삭제I do agree that this is a controversial and complex topic. To be honest,I know some girls coming to the US with the same intention mentioned in the article, to have babies and then their chirldren can legally become US citizens. These people hope that their children can grow up and get benefits from social welfare of the US. They want to change their lives and also their children's destinies. I understand and sympathize for these people. However, like you said, it is not fair for American taxpayers, who have to pay more with the hope that the social welfare will be improved, but it is not. Immigration has been a double-edge-knife social problem of the US. American culture has been known for divsersity. However, recently I know that immigration is one of the reason that lower America's education performance, specifically in the 2010 PISA (Program for International Student Assesment) study because of the share of black and Hispanic student is growing, according to a recent article on New York Times. It was 23 percent in 1980, 35 percent in 2009. In short, I think the change of the Amendment that Arizonia is trying to do, eventhough it is harsh, but still neccessary for the development of the United States.
답글삭제I totally agree with you Amy! Some immigrants come to the U.S with a good goal which is contributing the U.S in different ways so that they can get benefits from what they have done. However, there are also many immigrants, lazy ones, want to receive advantages from US society without paying taxes. In the other words, they are playing a cheated game with US government. Arizona is a state which borders Mexico. Consequently, their illegal immigration causes this argument. I absolutely can understand how the Americans feel when their taxes are spent wastefully. This legislation is such a right decision of Arizona's government. I support it and hope they will have more other legislation to stop this problem.
답글삭제I agree with you. If i were a citizen in Arizona, i would get mad at people who immigrated illegally because they don't pay taxes and their children enjoy benefit. Anyway, parents should be punished but their children are not to blame. They don't intend to get benefits for free.
답글삭제I absolutely agree with you, nowadays everything is unfair. I still dont understand why people pay taxes for those, who dont deserve it. And that is the reason why this issue is controversial and complicated. In the future this problem will not be solved and maybe wil get worse day by day. That is my opinion.
답글삭제I argree with you, it is unfair.
답글삭제At first time, it seems to be unfair, it might be a beneficial law to U.S, becuase if it is a no profit law, why they make this law?
The babies will be contribute to their country, they will also pay taxes.
I know it is kind of complicated problem, but
we need to more consider its advantages and
disadvantages.
i think it is a interesting law they had made. because i don't think anyone should/will bring their US citizenship document with them, that just weird. and i am sure it will be a big racial problem. because Arizona is really close to Mexico so probably that will be a lot of Mexican illegal immigrant and for the police they will probably check the Mexican more, so it might develop a racial discrimination to Mexican. it is going to be a serious problems.
